Phikwe marathon introduces corporate challenge

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The 2013 edition of the annual Mascom Phikwe Marathon will see the introduction of the corporate challenge category under the 10km race.

A member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Masego Masunga told Mmegi Sport this week that the corporate challenge will see organisations competing against each other.She explained that the teams would get prizes for the fastest team, a team with most participants, for the best team spirit and also the team that will be branded the best.She said that teams that have already registered are Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, First National Bank Botswana (FNBB), BotswanaBureau of Standards (BOBS), Bamangwato Toyota, Air Liquid, and Botswana Life Insurance Company (BLIC).

She noted that the winner of the 10 kilometres race will walk away with P2, 000, the second prize is P1, 000 while the third prize is P750.Masunga said the response towards the biggest marathon in the country has been positive and that they were expecting more runners to participate.The main stage of the marathon will be the 42, 2 kilometres for both men and women. Masunga said the winners (both men and women) would pocket P25,000 each. The second prize is P15, 000 and the runners who will arrive third at the finishing line will take home P7, 500.  The winners of the 42, 2 kilometre races will use their running time to qualify for International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF) events.
