PALAPYE: Residents of Palapye have welcomed the Minister of Sport, Youth and Culture (MSYC), Thapelo Olopeng’s proposal to develop an international horse track in the rapidly developing urban village.

Olopeng said at the annual Maun Mascom Derby that a track will be developed in Palapye to improve horse racing competition as well as attracting foreign investors.  Olopeng said land has already been identified and a bench-marking exercise will commence soon where the task team would be sent to countries like Dubai and the United States of America (USA) to identify international horse tracks, which could be built in Botswana.

However, Maun residents have raised concerns as to why the horse track was not built in their area where the sport is already popular.
