Palapye table tennis open attracts top players

An array of top class players converged in Palapye last weekend for the Palapye Open, organised by the Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA). The tournament was part of the association's aim to take the sport to the people and raise awareness about the sport.

The tournament saw the country's top ranked players from both the men and women's section, take part. There were also three international players from Zambia including Friday Ngandu who was dominant during his stay in Botswana.

BTTA public relations officer, Tiro Motswasele said they were impressed by the turn out, more particularly that it was the first time Palapye had hosted the event. He said 98 men and 42 women attended. Ngandu made a triumphant return as he snatched singles title after beating the top ranked Bonolo Mabote 3-0. The Zambian pocketed P500, whereas Boitshwarelo Butale of Fmafh Maniacf walloped BDF's Lovei Chilisa 3-1.
