Referees are reportedly ready to blow the whistle as the new soccer season gets underway on Friday. This is despite recent reports the referees had threatened to boycott the games due to outstanding payments from last season.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) referees committee chairperson and a member of the association’s National Executive Committee, Eatametse Olopeng said everything is in order. When asked about the recent reports about outstanding payments, Olopeng told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they have not received any official complaint about the matter.

“When we came into office, we found that there were pending payments for referees. The pending payments are from last season, but we are on top of that. We are addressing the issue as the executive,” Olopeng said.
