The marauding Queens got off to a flying start, taking the first centre and consequently the first goal to eventually win 55-22. The game was played at a frantic pace from the start as both sides scrapped for the ball.

Olyn scored twice in the first three minutes of the game before Hawks' Goal Shooter (GS) Masego Nkwe pulled one back. Hawks' point did little to change the state of affairs with Queens enjoying more possession. Some interceptions from Beauty Tumelo and Mphoentle Gumede kept the Queens' shooters at bay but another great shot from Olyn saw them surge further ahead. The first quarter belonged to Queens with Olyn playing a pivotal role. At the end of the opening quarter, they led 7-3. Though they were missing two key players, Opelo Setshwano and Gomolemo Balesamang, Queens put up a stellar performance.
