Chairperson of the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) local organising committee, Marumo Morule has called on government to continually support athletes and not focus only on major tournaments.

Speaking at the team’s send off ceremony in Gaborone on Monday, Morule said while they appreciate government’s support, it will be ideal if it is offered on a continuous basis.

“It would be better if athletes receive such support all the time, even when we are not preparing for major games. That would increase our performance in major competitions,” he said. Morule said if the Rio team does not bring medals, it will not be because they have not prepared well but for other reasons beyond their control. He said government had gone all out for the team.
