Olopeng challenges BFA over disciplinary case

Suspended First Division North chairman, Eatametse Olopeng has threatened to challenge the Botswana Football Association (BFA) over delays in hearing his case.

The most recent hearing date was last Saturday, but did not go ahead with the association claiming he had requested an extension, which he denies.Olopeng last week revealed he had received a letter by post notifying him of the July 6 hearing date. But yesterday, BFA chief executive officer (CEO) Keith Masters said Olopeng had asked for an extension. However, he would not say when the suspended chairman sought the postponement."He asked for an extension so he could look at some documentation," Masters said. But Olopeng denied asking for an extension this time, saying he actually did so in April. "I didn't ask for any extension. For this matter to proceed effectively - they told me to do everything to prepare for my defence.

I have long written to them (in April) asking for that documentation. Up to now, they have not responded," he said."I was surprised when I saw the letter calling me for the July 6 hearing. I never responded because it came late and it was posted through the post office. They never followed up to ensure I had received it."He said because the matter had taken too long, he was now contemplating on challenging the BFA legally. Olopeng has been on suspension for the last eight months. He was suspended last October allegedly for having testified against the BFA in a case pitting Police XI and the country's football mother body. "It's taking too long, the season has ended and we are about to start another one and I am still on suspension," he said.
