Oathotse fails to win zonal event

Providence Oathotse finished 2nd at the Fide Zone 4.3 championships in Madagascar in a tournament he was favoured to win and automatically earn a first ever International Master title by a male player for Botswana.

Instead the tournament was won by little known Madagascar player, Ranaivoharisoa Alain, who posted seven points after nine rounds, beating Oatlhotse to second place on 6.5 points.

The eventual winner interestingly also defeated the Botswana player in round 3.  Oatlhotse  was also held to two draws; first  by an unrated Madagascar player Randriambololona Herimanjatosoa, in round eight then by Rajaonarison Faniry in the last round.
