No fireworks at Rollers' meeting

Contrary to what was expected to happen at Township Rollers special annual general meeting, the Mascom Top 8 champions are said to have held a peaceful and fruitful meeting on Saturday.

The meeting follows weeks of internal wrangling between some sections of supporters and the club management.Although fireworks were expected to be the order of the day, the club supporters and the management are said to have buried the hatchet and agreed to take the club where it belongs. Some supporters have in recent months expressed their displeasure with the club management with regard to the issue of annual general meetings. However, following yesterday's meeting, both the supporters and the club management are now said to be on the same side and agreed to take the club forward as a family. The meeting took place at Maikano Junior Secondary School where a decision was taken to amend the club constitution.  The club chairperson, David Mmui told The Sport Monitor yesterday that the supporters endorsed the decision to amend the constitution to put it in line with the club's mission to turn into a company. A task team which will include specialists in different fields will be appointed to deal with the issue of constitutional amendment. "I can assure you that despite the differences that we had, the Rollers family is now intact. Everyone came from that meeting very happy and I should thank the club supporters for that," he said.

He said he told the supporters in his remarks that no one was intending to deny any Rollers supporter his/her right to the club. The club is also said to be in discussion to bring in businessman, Jagdish Shah as a partner and the supporters are said have welcomed the decision at the meeting. Still at the meeting, a decision was made to remove some items on the agenda among them financial report as well as confirmation of the minutes of the 2008 meeting. "We agreed that since it is a special general meeting, we should not deal with those items now," he added. The club will have the annual general meeting in February next year where the supporters and the management are expected to endorse the amended constitution.
