Botswana's bid to gain promotion to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Division Six League went up in smoke after an eight-wicket loss to Nigeria on Saturday on a rain-drenched BCA oval pitch.

The hosts, hoping for a return to Division Six, could not make it when it mattered most against the West Africans.

Botswana's campaign seemed well and truly on course after they bounced back from an opening day defeat to Kuwait, to register three consecutive victories. Despite being ranked above the other five participating countries and favoured to occupy one of the two promotion spots, Botswana fell short at the last hurdle.
