Nico tops chop and change charts

The 2008-2009 be MOBILE Premier League campaign has ended but the chopping and changing of coaches continue as clubs prepare for the new season. Already two coaches have been shown the door in the off-season with at least four more facing the sack.

However, no club is likely to beat the record set by Nico United in the dismissal of coaches in the just-ended season after Majombolo used four men - one of whom lasted for only three matches - to survive relegation. Even during the current break, the Nico revolving has been active with Luke Masomere leaving to be replaced by a former Zimbabwean international, Paul Gundani, who becomes Nico's fifth coach in one season or in eight months. This means that on average, the club has been recruiting or sacking a coach every one and a half months.

Madinda Ndlovu was with Nico at the beginning of the season and a lot was expected from him after he led the side to fourth place in the league in the 2007-2008 season, the club's best ever finish. However, in the just-ended season, the Zimbabwean lasted only three months before packing his bags to go back to his homeland to take charge of his boyhood team, Highlanders. He reportedly earns US$4,500 which is said to be the reason why he left. After the departure of Ndlovu, the Nico management was quick to rope in a rusty Guston Mutobo who was in charge for only three matches.
