Selebi-Phikwe side, Nico United proved that they can still avoid relegation when they thrashed Gaborone United (GU) 3-1 in a Mascom Premier League game where they desperately needed a victory.

The game was a closely contested one but Nico deservedly beat the odds and went back to the mining town knowing that they are now level on points with Extension Gunners. They both have 14 points each though Nico still have a game in hand. They still have to play GU again after the first round fixture between the two sides was postponed last year. GU on the other hand, have 23 points. Though they started the season on a high note, they faded towards the first round after the departure of Luke Masomere. The appointment of Shemmy Hunidzarira could not take GU where they wanted and he resigned. They however have been playing well especially after the appointment of former Centre Chiefs' coach, Mike Sithole.

Former FC Satmos striker, Thobo 'Fish' Kgoboge showed hunger and was all over GU defence for the entire game. He put Nico ahead in the first minute when he pounced on to a good cross that was played in to the box. GU defence should have been more alert though and made a decisive clearance.
