New Year, old Zebras faces

The drubbing at the hands of Mali seemingly has not ushered in a new era as expected, instead it has cemented the old guard's place in the national team. Coach, Stanley Tshosane has somehow frozen his selection, with wasted space going to the truant Dirang Moloi, writes MQONDISI DUBE

Tshosane has his trusted lieutenants and so do most coaches. It is a dead certairnity that Patrick Motsepe, Mompati Thuma and Lemponye Tshireletso would make Tshosane's list. After the 7-1 aggregate reversal against the Malians in an AFCON qualifier and a barren 2012, expectations were high that Tshosane will tinker with his ageing line-up.

There is a blend of youth; but worryingly players perceived past their sell-by dates still find crucial spaces in the national team. Motsepe has never been a fan favourite, presumably for slowing down the pace of the game with his penchant for sideways passing usually irritating the crowd.
