New Low As Referees Boycott First Division North League

FRANCISTOWN: Following its controversial suspension three weeks ago, the Debswana First Division North League hit a new low last Saturday when the clash between Great North Tigers (GNT) and Mahalapye Hotspurs failed to take off.

Both clubs arrived at the Francistown Stadium in time and started warming up, but the game that was scheduled to kickoff at 4:00 pm was postponed to a yet to be specified day and venue due to non-appearance by referees.

Soccer official, Mpenzeni Simbandawe, said the two clubs in the absence of the appointed match officials, the rules allow substitute referees agreed by the involved clubs.
