Karate activities added to the vibrancy of the River Walk Mall on Saturday when 160 children from five Gaborone Primary Schools engaged in a tournament, accompanied by parents and guardians.

Boys and girls competed in knock-out bouts in a huge yellow tent erected a few metres in front of Hi-Fi Corporation. Outside the tent some karate youngsters had fun on the jumping castle. The activities marked the launch of the newly established DA karate club. The club is the brainchild of recently retired karate champion Andrew Dobolo, a soldier with the Botswana Defence Force (BDF).

The 2003 All-Africa Games gold medallist and two a time African champion said his club targets primary school children. He said he started the project six months ago, although he was interrupted for a month by preparations for this year's All African Games. DA Club  has already established itself at four primary schools in Gaborone. These are Block Five Primary, Tshiamo Primary, Philip Moshotle Primary and Lesedi Primary. He works with 230 boys and girls.
