New format for Coke Cup

The draw for the 2009/2010 Coca-Cola Cup has been made with the first games scheduled for December 5.

Once again, clubs in the lower divisions will go into action first before the big guns join later. For the first time, the giants will have an opportunity to host the lightweights unlike before when they travelled to confront the minnows. Clubs have been grouped from bands A to D. Band A clubs will play against those in band B. Band D clubs will do battle with their C counterparts.

The chairman of the Coca-Cola Cup organising committee, Gaolathe Kelesitse said there are changes to the format they used in the past. He said that this year, there will be draws after every round to determine which team plays away and which one plays at home. In the past, the teams in band D, which is mostly dominated by the Premier League clubs usually played away against opponents in the lower divisions. Kelesitse said this year,  the big guns will also have an opportunity to play at home. He said all games from the quarterfinals will be televised.
