Netball team's ranking to improve after Ireland heroics

The senior netball team brought home a bronze medal from the Northern Ireland netball tournament, which will see an improvement in rankings.

The local team, which consisted mostly of players, beat St Lucia in the third place play off. Botswana’s ranking is expected to rise from 18th in the world after beating the 12th ranked St Lucia. Barbados and Northern Ireland also took part in the four nations festival.

Botswana Netball Association (BONA) spokesperson Kelebogile Maplanka said the result is a reflection of the hunger that the players showed. She said the selection of young players in the team was a deliberate move to give them exposure as majority of them had not played at senior team level.”
