The national netball team revs up preparations with a few Under-21 players set to join them ahead of next month's Africa Championships.

The team has been doing weekend camps, and is set to group for an uninterrupted training camp next week. They group in Gaborone from June 1 to break for the following weekend before returning to camp until they travel for the continental showpiece.

Malawi will host this year's edition of the Africa Championships that run from June 23 to 30. Newly appointed national team co-coach, Sithulisiwe Mlotshwa, is buoyant ahead of her first major assignment."We obviously have a group of talented players and so far, the preparations have progressed smoothly. We now await the full training camp next week," Mlotshwa told Mmegi Sport. She said her short term desire is to facilitate the smooth integration of some Under 21 players and good results in Malawi. The Under 21s did well in the just-ended tournament in South Africa where they finished second behind the hosts. Notwane shooterm, Tumisang Bagidi, and BDF Cats duo of Ntebogang Motlakaleso and Hilda Binang are some of the bright prospects already jostling for positions in the senior team.  "It is every coach's desire to do well, and I am no exception. We have a few Under 21 players who took part in the tournament in South Africa. The idea is to ensure they get established in the senior team set up. They will certainly be the backbone of the team in the near future," she said. Mlotshwa and her co-coach Abednico Chitelo were appointed as national coaches on April 18. The Africa Championships are their first major assignment. In Malawi, they will lead their charges against teams including the hosts, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania and South Africa.
