The national netball team returned home on Friday after finishing third in the just ended Confederation of South African Netball Association (COSANA) tournament held in Durban, South Africa. Malawi topped the tournament followed by hosts South Africa. Other countries that took part in the event are Zimbabwe, Namibia, Swaziland and Lesotho.

Botswana coach Seipei Gaelesiwe blamed their third finish on insufficient preparations. The International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) world rankings have not been released but she suspects that Botswana's position has not changed because they finished in the same position at the COSANA tournament last year. Gaelesiwe said the team will only lose its ranking if it was beaten by lower-rated sides. She said countries like Malawi prepared well for the event as they had just returned from Manchester, England after a friendly game while Botswana only played with the men netball team.

Against South Africa, she said they started well but faltered at the last hurdle because the opposition had physical players. Gaelesiwe added that this time the competition was tough because many countries took part. She said even the countries they beat were not easy and the competition was an eye-opener to her team. She said the lessons they learnt will go a long way in helping netball in the country.
