Thulie Retshabile, who was contesting for the Botswana Netball Association (BONA) presidency, is challenging the outcome of the elections, which were held in May.

The case was brought before the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) panel on Tuesday and has been postponed to July 27, 2021. Malebo Raditladi won the elections with four votes while Retshabile received three votes. The other candidate, Onkemetse Mpudi received two votes. According to information reaching Mmegi Sport, Retshabile’s appeal is that TAFIC Netball Club is not a fully bonafide affiliate of BONA because its membership was cancelled at the Registrar of Societies in 2013, in that manner they do not meet the requirements of the BONA constitution. The club participated in the election. “BONA claims that they submitted the required documents. Retshabile argues that the submitted documents are not authentic because TAFIC is operating illegally. According to the Registrar, TAFIC is operating illegally, because their membership was cancelled in 2013,” a source said.

BONA secretary-general, Ntebo Maplanka said they were summoned by BNSC but did not shed much light, referring further inquiries on the issue to the Commission.
