Ndawana lands chess masters crown

Mosenya Ndawana lived up to his top billing when he won the Turbo Refrigeration Masters tournament held in Shadishadi, near Shoshong over the weekend.

The event, which Turbo Refrigeration sponsored to the tune of P10,000, was part of the Botswana Chess Federation's (BCF) 30th anniversary.

Ndawana had been tipped to walk away with the first prize of P1,200 and duly obliged with a flawless performance beating Jona Chaka of Zimbabwe into second place. Chaka returned home with P800, while Chazah Bontse received P600 after coming third. Other players received P150 as consolation.  The event attracted 15 men over the age of 35, who included former champions, John Hutcheson and Chaka. Hutcheson held the title before Ndawana seized the crown. Ndawana is among the top six chess players in his category.
