Mpete started playing soccer at Seingwaeng Primary School and continuing his passion at Linchwe II Secondary School in Mochudi. When at Linchwe, the young Mpete joined Mochudi Big 15 football club ere he stayed for a short period of time before moving to Mochudi Centre Chiefs.

He tells Mmegi Sport he joined Chiefs soon after it was formed in 1970.
