The MP for Mahalapye East, Botlhogile Tshireletso has reacted angrily to statements by the Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Philip Makgalemele that politicians should desist from meddling in soccer matters.

Makgalemele recently told politicians to stop making populist statements on football after Youth, Sport and Culture Minister Moeng Pheto revealed the pay of two soccer coaches following a question by Tshireletso in Parliament.

"I am very angry with him for saying that I wanted to gain political mileage by asking the question in Parliament. As an MP, I have the responsibility to ask questions. Why is he saying that when we have always asked questions about other organisations," she said. Tshireletso told Monitor Sport that as an MP, she will continue to ask questions on matters concerning sports and other things. "I am already an MP and what political mileage do I want to gain now? He is the one who is trying to gain political mileage because we know he wants to stand for elections in Shoshong," Tshireletso added.
