Motsweding fm win Stanbic Bank tourney

Mafikeng-based radio station, Motsweding fm won the first Stanbic Bank Media Cup when they beat Botswana Television (Btv) 2-1 in a closely contested final played before an electrifying atmosphere at the Gaborone Club on Saturday afternoon. Motsweding fm went home with a floating trophy and gold medals for their efforts.

Motsweding reached the final after hammering hosts Mmegi 4-1 in the second semi-final played at midday. It was a bad day for the print media as earlier in the day, Botswana Gazette surrendered their first-half lead and lost 6-4 to a strong Btv side.  In the final as if in a bid to determine who has the better technology between the two sides, Btv went down 2-1 to the boys from the Northwest. Commenting on the games, guest of honour former Ghana international Abedi Pele said, "there were quite a number of good players on the field. It is unfortunate that they do not play regularly, otherwise they possess good skill."

Stanbic Bank sponsored the Stanbic Bank Media Cup to the tune of P40,000. The tournament organiser Tshepo Molwane said "the Stanbic Bank sponsorship of this tournament shows the support that the bank has not only for media initiatives but also football in Botswana. Having the tournament as part of the Orange AFCON Angola 2010 Trophy Tour activities added the cherry to the cake. We were very honoured to play in front of Abedi Pele and I am sure the guys also went out of their way to play their best in order to impress."
