Martial arts chief instructor, Socca Moruakgomo has upgraded to sixth dan black belt after 16 years as a fifth dan black belt holder.

The chief instructor recently received the new grade in Germany where instructors, the Shihans capped him. Moruakgomo, who has a 42-year career practising martial arts, is the third Motswana to acquire a sixth dan black belt after two of his former students, Million Masumbika and Mpho Bakwadi, both renowned karatekas.

“I had to go through a one week training demonstrating different katas, interpreting the different techniques, which I was also being judged on. They also took a look at my previous records,” Moruakgomo said.
