Montsho to compete at SA Open

World 400 metre champion Amantle Montsho will run in the SA Open Championships that take place in Pretoria, South Africa today and tomorrow.

According to the Athletics South Africa website, Montsho intensifies her Olympics preparations at Pilditch Stadium alongside several other Botswana athletes including new 100 metre record holder, Yatea Kambepera. The 28-year-old Montsho holds the Botswana national women's 400 metre record after her 49.56sec victory in Daegu at the World Championships last August.

In South Africa, where no female athlete has ever broken the 50sec barrier, she will face the likes of Tsholofelo Thipe. Thipe is currently the fastest woman in South Africa having clocked 51.52sec, an A-standard Olympic qualifying time early last month. However, all eyes will be on Kambepera who recently broke the 100 metre national record. He will together with the High Performance Centre-based athletes take part in the championships.
