Montsho steps up World Championships preps

Defending world 400 metre women's champion, Amantle Montsho, steps up her World Championships' preparations in Turkey this week.

In 10 days' time, Montsho returns to the World Championships, this time in Moscow, Russia seeking to retain the world title.Montsho will spend eight days in Turkey as she wraps up her preparations for the upcoming championships. She decided to withdraw from the London Diamond League race to focus on the Moscow championships.

Montsho recently set a new national and Diamond League record in Monaco, France when she ran 49,33 secs in the women's 400 m. The record breaking time is this year's world's fastest time in her event.She bettered the 49,56 secs she ran in Daegu, South Korea two years back, narrowly beating American Allyson Felix to win the World Championship gold and set a personal best.The Moscow event roars into life on August 10 to 18.  Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) public relations officer, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba, confirmed that Montsho was rounding off her preparations in the trans-continental country. He added that the rest of the team will leave this week for the World Championships.
