Montsho in emphatic start to Diamond League

Women's world defending 400m champion Amantle Montsho got off to an excellent start in the 2013 IAAF Samsung Diamond League winning the first race in Doha, Qatar on Friday night.

Montsho had the honour of running the first sub-50sec time of the year with a world-leading 49.88sec as she beat stiff competition from last year's Olympic gold medallist Allyson Felix of the USA and Great Britain's Christine Ohuruogo who won silver at the Olympics.

Felix and Ohuruogo finished second and third behind Montsho. As it has been the case with her previous races, Montsho did not have the best of reaction times reacting after 0.209s while Felix and Ohuruogo reacted after 0.178s and 0.176s respectively.
