"Piro...Piro...Piro," chanted jovial Mochudi Centre Chiefs at the northern stands as their star striker Pontsho 'Piro' Moloi completed a brace in the 6-0 routing of relegated Prisons XI in a Mascom Premier League game at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The double gave the marksman top spot in the goalscorer's chart and this season's Golden Boot award. Before the Prisons game, Moloi had 20 goals, one less than his top rival Tshepiso 'Sox' Molwantwa of Notwane. When the game started, it was clear that Chiefs' supporters wanted their star to get into the score sheet and grab the Premier League's Golden Boot award.  Against Prisons XI, Moloi was closely guarded by captain Kabelo 'KB' Kgosiang and Baakanyi Mmipi. At times he was subjected to rough tackles from his opponents. He failed to score in the half despite the fact that Chiefs were leading 3-0 with a brace from striker Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Steven Maposa at half time.
As time ran out in the second half, some Chiefs' supporters wondered if Moloi would score. The moment of truth finally came in the 71st minute when the striker found the back of the net to pull level with Molwantwa at 21 goals. Before the celebrations could die down, Moloi got his second goal four minutes later to reach the 22-goal-mark and edge out Molwantwa. After the goal, Chiefs' supporters hugged and kissed and one jubilant fan commented: "It's all over. Pontsho has taken it. I'm going home."
When Moloi was substituted by youngster Lesego Galenamotlhala in the 80th minute, he was given a standing ovation. After the game, supporters waited for the star striker to finish with the media and scrambled for his T-shirt which he threw into a group fans waiting at the northern stand.
In an interview with Mmegi Sport yesterday, Moloi paid tribute to his teammates who were supportive in ensuring that he gots the award. "I was tightly marked by Prisons XI defence. At some stage, they even vowed that I would not score but I remained focused. I am happy that I've achieved such a feat," he said. Moloi pointed out that when the season started, he was not mentioned as one of the challengers for the Golden Boot award and this motivated him to work hard. "Sox led for long but I told myself that I should continue scoring and wait to see what happens at the end of the season. Now here I am," he said. He said the overwhelming applause he got when he was substituted was an unbelievable emotional experience.
"I couldn't believe it. But I appreciate the fact that not only our supporters appreciated the effort I've put in this season." Though there have been speculation that Moloi might sign for Township Rollers in the coming season, he confirmed that he is staying put at Magosi. "Chiefs is a terrific side and I can assure our supporters that I'll be with the team next season. I want to win things with Chiefs and will fight hard to achieve it. I urge our supporters to continue rallying behind the team because they make a difference," he told Mmegi Sport.
Moloi stands another chance of leaving the awards night on July 6 with the player of the season title. Recently, some Premier League coaches told Mmegi Sport that he is their choice for the diadem.
