Molepolole hosts pre-season charity soccer tourney

Although the annual Kabelano Charity Cup will not be taking place this year, football supporters will not be entirely disappointed as another one day soccer spectacle is billed for August 22. The Goitsemang Merafhe Charity Cup will be played at Molepolole Sports Complex where Township Rollers, Notwane, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Killer Giants will lock horns.

The tournament is named after Merafhe, a former Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) student who was forced to discontinue his studies due to illness. BAC human resource officer, Anthony Motswagole told Mmegi Sport yesterday that Extension Gunners could not participate in the tournament because they have released their players for the off-season.

New national champions, Gaborone United did not respond to the organisers' request. Motswagole said they then opted for Rollers, Chiefs, Killer Giants and Notwane who responded positively to their request. He explained that the participating clubs will share 40 percent from the proceeds. It has not been decided whether the clubs will share the money equally or whether they should be paid according to performance.
