The Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) holds an elective congress in Francistown tomorrow with the battle for the top post between vice president (administration), David Mathe and former vice president (technical), Million Masumbika likely to arouse much interest.

A tough contest is expected judging by the two's vast experience in karate. Against Masumbika, Mathe comes against a candidate with a sound technical and administrative background. While his focus most of the time has been on technical matters, those close to Masumbika believe he has also done well as an administrator. He is the founder of one of the most successful karate style Kofukan. It is understood that the style is doing well because of both his administrative and technical abilities. The style has produced national team karatekas in the likes of Thato Malunga and Moses Jones.

Masumbika, who holds a Diploma in Business Administration, also works as an administrator at Botswana Defence Force (BDF) sports office. He served BOKA for 21 successive years from 1989 to 2010 in different positions. He has served in all the executive committee positions except that of the president. Masumbika said if he wins tomorrow, the priority would be to bring back retired karatekas to help take the game to another level.
