Mass retrenchments loom at BNSC

The cash-strapped Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) has confirmed that it will continue with a retrenchment exercise amid reports that up to 30 employees might leave.

The BNSC is in the middle of a financial squeeze and is battling to reduce a P11.3 million annual wage bill.

 The retrenchments are part of cost cutting measures as the sports body tightens its purse strings. Eight employees left in December and more are expected to follow. The on-going exercise is expected to last six months.
