Mobile phone service provider, Mascom has given Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) the remaining P2 million in the three-year league sponsorship deal. Mascom first gave BVF P1 million to sponsor the league last year.

Speaking at the launch of the sponsorship yesterday, Mascom boss, Jose Vieira Couceiro said it was not a difficult decision to continue sponsorship. "Mascom is convinced that volleyball has made concerted efforts to positively protect and promote Mascom brand," he  said. He stated that his company has gained maximum mileage from the consistent media coverage of the league. He explained that by sponsoring volleyball, they are helping one of Botswana's priority sports which continues to perform well locally, regionally and internationally. "It gives Mascom a great pleasure when a sport that we support raises the Botswana flag high," he said. Couceiro congratulated the women national team for qualifying for the All-Africa Games (AAG) and wished Kutlwano women team well at the ongoing Africa Club Championships in Kenya. He advised BVF to start developing the game at the grassroots and to invest more on development programmes. "Botswana has talented players, tap on that talent, grow it and your sport will achieve even more," he said.

The Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) president, Daniel Molaodi thanked Mascom for their continued support and promised that just like in the past, the money will be put to good use. He said the sponsorship has helped a lot because the money the federation could have used for the league will be spent on other things like development. "We do not have age-based competitions at the moment and we are currently pushing for that and we are getting a positive response," he said. Molaodi said they plan to have players taking part in tough competitions from a young age. The league is expected to start next weekend.
