Mascarenhas, Caims clinch bowls singles berths

Lebo Mascarenhas of Phikwe Bowling Club and Orapa's Patrick Caims have clinched berths at the World Singles Champion of Champions tournament to be held in Adelaide, Australia, next year after their triumphant runs in the local Singles Championships last weekend.

Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) spokesperson, John Gaborutwe said Mascarenhas and Caims have automatically qualified for the world event after their respective victories. Mascarenhas defeated Tirelo Buckley of Jwaneng club 21 to 17 shots in the women's category. Mascarenhas has five singles trophies to her name together with Barbra Anderson (1976, 77, 81, 90 and 98) and Jacky Rhodes (1978, 79, 80, 82   and 86).

The record holder is Shelly Baylis of Francistown Club who won the singles competition in 1989, 1992, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2004. Ray Mascarenhas holds the men's record with eight gold medals. In the men's category, Caims claimed victory over Joshua Mothusi with a score of 21 to 15 shots.
