Marudu wins BCL Ladies' Golf Open

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Favourite, Trazinah Marudu held off a strong challenge from Connie Paul to win the BCL Ladies Golf Open played at the Selebi-Phikwe Golf Club over the weekend. Marudu of Sowa Golf Club won a tense but exciting play-off after seeing her lead of three strokes cancelled out on the last day.

On Saturday, Marudu finished the day ahead by three strokes then maintained the gap until the last hole when she allowed Paul back into play. Cornie, from Gaborone Golf Club, got four while Marudu had a score of seven on the last hole to level scores and take the game to a thrilling play-off. The two top players halved each other with pars before Marudu won on sudden-death on the second hole. Phikwe's Sandra Hughes threatened an upset on Saturday when she led the pack after the first nine holes. Hughes was the only player to break 40 in the whole tournament.
