Manthe dominates UB sports awards

Merrylin Manthe emerged the biggest winner at the University of Botswana (UB) annual sports awards held on Friday night. A member of the UB karate team, Manthe walked away with the biggest award of the night, scooping the sports star of the year award. She was also crowned the sports woman of the year 2015/2016.

Manthe told Monitor Sport that the two awards were a motivation. As a member of the national karate team, Manthe won a bronze medal at the 2015 All Africa Games. “The awards mean I should continue working hard and go out and defend my medal at the Africa Cup. I want to continue working hard because my next target is to win the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) award next year,” said tan excited Manthe.

Manthe has been selected to represent Botswana at the upcoming Zone VI karate championships that will be held in Harare, Zimbabwe by month end. She will be competing in individual and team kumite.
