Malunga scoops two gold medals

Exciting karateka, Thato Malunga has scooped two gold medals at the on-going Botswana games in Gaborone. She won two medals in women individual kata and Under-60kg kumite.

In kumite, Malunga, a dominant force in the Botswana national team overcame Malebogo Robert, from Gaborone, Martha Motsamai of Francistown and Kesegofetse Keetile of North West. Robert scooped the silver medal while both Motsamai and Keetile settled for bronze medals. Malunga defeated Robert in the kata individual category. Robert got silver while Kutlwano Molefi of Kweneng scooped bronze. Molefi however redeemed herself by winning the gold medal in the Under-53 individual kumite category. Lesedi Bahlomi of Francistown came second and got a silver while Thato Losolotsile and Tsholofelo Maduma, both from Gaborone settled for bronze.

In the over-60 category, Thato Masumbika of Kweneng won the gold medal while Chedza Makaba (Gaborone), Priscilla Moatshe (Gaborone) and Keamogetse Hluke won silver and bronze medals respectively. Gaborone region scooped the first position, Kweneng came second, North West came third while Kgatleng settled for the fourth position in karate.
In the boys' individual kata, Oratile Caiphus overcame Maano Legae in all-all Gaborone affair to win gold. Prince Nakedi of Kweneng and Kamogelo Mmenyane of Kgatleng both won bronze in the boys' individual kata.
