Motsumi Lekone received a major boost ahead of this weekend's 1,000 Desert Race with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture through the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) coming on board as additional sponsors.

The department joins Bontleng Engen Service Station which has been sponsoring Lekone since 2010. Lekone is an employee of the Botswana National Archives and Records Services, which falls under the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture. Lekone received P10,000 from the DSR for this year's race with the relationship expected to continue in the next coming years.

DSR director, Falcon Sedimo revealed at the announcement of the sponsorship on Monday that Lekone had requested P5,000 but they doubled the amount as they are aware of the challenges that come with participating in the sport.
