Seasoned karateka, Vicky Majama has been out of action for over a year, but during the recent Commonwealth Karate Championships held in Australia, the 26 year-old proved that there is no substitute for experience.

Prior to the team's departure, Majama promised to bring home a gold medal despite his long lay off.  True to his word, Majama kicked his way to a gold medal, which was the only gold the team won.

Before the Australia assignment, Majama's last medal at an international tournament was a gold from the same competition in 2009. He then took a brief hiatus from the competition before bouncing back to claim a gold medal in the 2011 Zone VI Championships.  Majama said competition in the Commonwealth championships was tough, particularly from European karatekas.
