Maitengwe' s annual tournament gets sponsorship

FRANCISTOWN: The Maitengwe annual football tournament has attracted 10 clubs with Nyare Investment popping out P30, 000 to sponsor the event.

The Francistown cash loan, chemicals and stationery supply company has signed a deal with Maitengwe football committee to sponsor the 10-year-old tournament. Nyare director, Ishmael Nyare said his company wanted to support the only entertainment that the large population in Maitengwe gets during the festive season. All Stars FC which has won the tourney several times is expected to vie for supremacy with Chiefs, Fighters, defending champions Wawa also known as Ziba Bola Wu Sokosa.  "As the only entertainment in Maitengwe, we are looking forward to see people coming in large numbers like in the previous years. I am sponsoring the tournament in a bid to close a gap of boredom and to keep the football clubs busy and gain something at the end," said Nyare.

Young Strikers, Wanderers, Killer Giants, Aces, Foreign 11 and the Blue Birds will be among the 10 teams doing battle at the tournament. Nyare said the committee has arranged to give the champions P5, 400. The runners-up will get P4, 200 and the third-placed will pocket P3, 000. Miss Maitengwe 2010-2011 will be crowned on Christmas day and will hand over the prizes to the winners. The tournament is eagerly-waited by many in Maitengwe and the surrounding areas like Dagwi. It kicks-off on December 25 with the final scheduled for January 1.
