Maiketso to step down as BFA match commissioner

FRANCISTOWN: Ephraim Maiketso, who is currently the match commissioner for the Premier League in Francistown, revealed that he will step down from this role to focus on his mayoral duties. Maiketso was elected the mayor of Francistown in May after a stint deputising Shadreck Nyeku. Recently, Maiketso served as match commissioner during the Mascom Top 8 game between ECCO City Greens and Mochudi Centre Chiefs; the game was held at the Francistown Stadium on June 16.

Maiketso said because of his mayoral duties, he has to step down as match commissioner for Premier League games and dedicate himself to acting out his duties as mayor."It is not yet official that I will be leaving because I have not yet told my officials. But after the games, I will inform the Botswana Football Association (BFA) of my wish to leave. "I am still waiting for the (BFA) national assembly where new committees will be elected. That is when I will bid farewell to the officials. The national assembly will be held on July 28. Maiketso has been a match commissioner since the 1990s.
The Maun born Botswana Congress Party (BCP) politician has been in love with the sport since he was a child. He co-founded Maun Terrors, of which he is a still member.He came to Francistown and played for TAFA for a while before moving to Notwane where he played until 1982.
