Mahlangu dedicates goal to his granny

May Mahlangu says that his wonder goal for Bafana Bafana against Morocco on Sunday is dedicated to his grandmother who "has always been there" for him in the absence of his own parents.

Mahlangu struck in the 70th minute to draw Bafana level and send the fans at Moses Mabhida into frenzy. "I dedicate this goal to my grandmother. She has always been there for me, supporting me because I do not have parents," Mahlangu said after the game.

"She is in Mpumalanga in Secunda and this goal was for her." Mahlangu went on to say that he is not surprised at the quality of his curling long-range shot that sailed into the top corner. "I've worked a lot on my shooting at training, especially from outside of the danger area where I try to bend the ball towards goal," he said. "This is something that I do a lot overseas at my club so it is not a surprise for me. "I am just very happy that I was able to do this in South Africa to show the fans I can do it for them too, and it is a reward for the hard work I have put in at training." Mahlangu made his debut in Sweden with Helsingborg in August 2009.
