Reigning Boxer of the Year, Oteng Oteng's exploits in the ring have not gone unnoticed as his home region, Mahalapye, is preparing to honour him next week Saturday.

The event will be a joint effort by the Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) and other area dignitaries among them the District Commissioner. BoBA information and publicity secretary, Willough Kemoen said it is befitting for Oteng to be honoured by his own people after what he has done for the country. He said this is to acknowledge what he is doing for the country and added that the event will go a long way in encouraging other boxers. Oteng hails from Mookane, but the event will take place in Mahalapye, a sub-district in which his village falls under. Among other achievements, Oteng won a gold medal at this year's All Africa Games in Mozambique.

Among dignitaries expected, will be the Members of Parliament (MP) for the area as well as the BoBA patron, Nonofo Molefhi. Oteng will also sign autographs during the event. "This will help us extend the boxing profile and encourage kids to follow their dreams of joining boxing," Kemoen told Mmegi Sport. He added that they currently do not have a boxing club in Mahalapye and this affords them an opportunity to sell the idea to the people.
