Mahalapye braces for Olympic Day Run

Mahalapye will tomorrow host the annual Olympic Day Run (ODR), whose aim is to encourage people to participate in sports. The ODR is held every year as part of the culture of the International Olympics Committee (IOC).

This year's event will be held under the theme Move, Learn, Discover. Botswana National Olympics Committee (BNOC) spokesperson, Boniface Mabeo said in an interview that preparations for the event were going on well. He said they have engaged the Mahalapye leadership to be in the forefront of the event because they want residents to own the event.

The event has also appointed two organising committees comprising of Mahalapye locals as well as a group from Gaborone. He explained that the two committees have been meeting often to prepare for the day. Through the event, the BNOC hopes to enlighten the Mahalapye community about the importance of taking part in sports. The event will also be used to preach the spirit of 'Olympism' to Mahalapye committee.
