Local boxers continued their good run at the ongoing Zone IV Elite Boxing Championship at the Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA) hall in Sebele.

Yesterday afternoon, Oteng Oteng (52kg) and Mmoloki Nogeng (60kg) became the latest to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament and are already certain of at least a bronze medal. Oteng progressed to the last four after overcoming his Malagasy opponent Aime Andriamirisa 22-7. The reigning Zone VI champion who won bronze at last year Commonwealth Games was all over his man from the second round following a slow first round that he won 6-2. Oteng scored 12 points in the second round conceding only three to land an easy win. The action of the day however was in the 60kg light category where Mmoloki Nogeng was up against Zimbabwean Future Maziya.

The Zimbabwean youngster entered the ring full of confidence but things would soon turn sour as he was on the receiving end of heavy punches from the experienced pugilist. The referee had to come to the rescue of the 18-year old Maziya bringing the contest to an end in less than three minutes of the opening round. Nogeng planted simultaneous powerful straight jabs at the Zimbabwean's head with no answer. Maziya was grounded in the first minute before trying to continue with the fight.
