Lobatse Stadium misses World Cup deadline

LOBATSE: The new Lobatse Stadium has missed the 2010 World Cup deadline as it will only be completed on June 19, eight days after the soccer show piece's kick-off.

The project manager, Francis Mtema told Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Shaw Kgathi during the minister's tour of the facility yesterday that they are doing the finishing touches and that the playing surface will be ready for action by June 19.

The stadium has a capacity of 20, 000. Besides the main stadium, the facility consists of a grassed rugby pitch, a sports hall for indoor games, two plain football pitches, two grassed football pitches and a cricket field.
