Lobatse giants share the spoils

Lobatse giants, Extension Gunners and BMC settled for a 1-1 draw during their Mascom Premier League game played at the UB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The derby disappointed many people as it failed to produce the expected fireworks. After their 3-1 win over Township Rollers the previous weekend, all eyes were on Gunners to see if they would stage another star performance. Though they started well and scored in the 17th minute through Nkosinathi Khumalo, Mapantsula were sloppy especially in the midfield.

The absence of Kemmy Pilato, who was serving a one-match suspension, paralysed the Peleng boys who were found wanting in the second half as BMC stepped up the gear. Gunners' problems were not helped by the early departure of Khumalo, who pulled a muscle whilst chasing a ball. Substitute Othusitse Modukanele, who replaced him in the 24th minute, tried his best and was unlucky not to have scored in the 46th minute when BMC defender Alex Matshameko cleared his effort off the line. On the other hand, BMC resorted to a cautious start which ended up with them conceding an early goal. Some of their key players; Modise Motswadi, Bobo Motlhalane, Kenanao Kgetholetsile and Mosimanegape Ramohibidu, failed to pick their game. The load of scoring goals was left to burly Zimbabwean striker Zenzo Moyo but could not penetrate the Gunners' defence. At times, Moyo received little protection from referee Uyapo Julius as he was hacked and kicked by Gunners' defender Onkgopotse Molato.
