Livid affiliates want tennis president out

The normal peace and calm around the Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) offices situated next to the Notwane Club in Gaborone is about to be disturbed. While it is all tranquil outside the tennis courts, inside the BTA offices, a storm is brewing.

The executive committee and affiliates are divided, with demands for BTA president Nelson Amanze and his secretary general, Boikobo Gaolebalwe to vacate the office. Amanze has been in the BTA committee for almost 17 years.

BTA annual general meeting was expected to be held tomorrow and it has since been postponed to a further date. Gaolebalwe broke the news of the postponement to the affiliates on Wednesday.  “This decision has been taken to allow time for the return of the amended BTA constitution by the Registrar of Societies. Members will recall that they approved amendments to the BTA constitution at the extra general meeting that was held in June,” reads part of the statement.
