Lekgari gets Zebra call-up

Namibia-based defender Pako Lekgari has received his first national team call- up as the team currently in camp prepares to play Zimbabwe in an international friendly match next Wednesday.

The left fullback, who plies his trade at Black Africa FC in the Namibian Premier League, has been named in the 30-man provisional squad to face the Warriors at Rufaro Stadium in Harare. However, he did not report to camp with the rest of the team on Sunday, as he will be playing a midweek fixture for his club. He is expected to join the team before the weekend. The 22-year-old former youth international has been a regular performer for his club since signing from Black Peril back in 2011. The former BMC and Peril defender has represented Botswana at Under-20 and Under-23 and it remains to be seen whether he will make coach Stan Tshosane's 18-man final squad to travel to Zimbabwe.

The stocky defender was a long time understudy to national team left fullback Mosimanegape 'Twizer' Ramohibidu while still at BMC. Lekgari would have to prove his worth against regular Ramohibidu, who just returned from a long injury-induced lay off, as well as Township Rollers defender Edwin Olerile who has been used as a replacement for Ramohibidu on a number of occasions. The two have also been called to camp.Olerile has failed to fit into Ramohibidu's shoes playing in the position and Tshosane might be looking to bring in another player to give Ramohibidu competition. During last year AFCON in Gabon after Ramohibidu sustained an injury against Ghana in the opening match, Tshosane opted to use Musa Ohilwe on the left side of his defence. Other defenders called to camp are BMC duo of Ohilwe and Tshepo Maikano, Rollers' Oscar Ncenga, Tebogo Sebina of Gaborone United, Thabiso Khunwane of Mochudi Centre Chiefs and BDF duo of Mompati Thuma and Ndiyapo Letsholathebe.
