Lebotse retained as BONA president

Tebogo Lebotse was re-elected the Botswana Netball Association (BONA) president over the weekend and said that the improvement of the international ranking of the national team is a top priority in her new term.

After her election in Mahalapye, Lebotse said she has learnt a great lesson from the politics of the game and is now mature to perform her duties with more confidence. She stated that her priority is to facilitate the participation of the national teams at international competitions to improve their world rankings. She explained that of the three African countries rated by the world netball governing body, Botswana is the least ranked at number 18 behind South Africa and Malawi. "We believe our teams have a potential to improve their rankings and that can only happen when they take part in many international tournaments," Lebotse said. Taking part in a substantial number of international events will also help Botswana to qualify for the 2012 Commonwealth Games. It is hoped that the senior team will take part in the Three Nations Cup in South Africa in July against the hosts and Fiji.

Lebotse is confident that the competition will help the team because the opponents are ranked higher. BONA intends to take the team to the Singapore Five-Nations tournament that it first took part in last year.
